CLASSROOM EDUCATION

Santa Barbara Channelkeeper provides interactive marine education to schools throughout Santa Barbara and northern Ventura counties, teaching students about the importance of water quality, eelgrass beds and kelp forests.

In addition to learning from our in-classroom presentations, students participate in hands-on activities we've designed throughout the school year. This past school year, students grew eelgrass plants from seeds, and participated in a kelp ecology lesson and an exciting hands-on sea urchin reproduction mitosis lab.

Since 2002, 21 different schools throughout Santa Barbara and Ventura counties have participated in our Marine Education Program. Through this program and other education efforts, we have worked with more than 14,000 students teaching them about the importance of water quality, eelgrass beds and kelp forests.
