Channelkeeper’s 13th annual Blue Water Ball fundraising gala was our best ever, raising nearly $110,000 for our work to protect and restore the Santa Barbara Channel and its watersheds! At the event, which took place on April 6th at the Montecito Country Club, a record 220 guests celebrated Channelkeeper’s recent victories for clean water, shopped at our extensive silent auction, danced to live music by Soul Biscuit, and joined us in paying tribute to Patagonia for its environmental leadership. Steve Gaines, Dean of UCSB’s Bren School and member of Channelkeeper’s Advisory Council, delivered the tribute to Patagonia on our behalf, and Yvon Chouinard, founder and CEO of Patagonia, inspired us all with some words of wisdom about how and why his company became a trailblazer in the realm of corporate responsibility and citizenship, and why it enthusiastically supports the critical work of grassroots environmental groups like Channelkeeper.
Many thanks to all who attended and contributed to making this our best event ever! Thanks also to Yvon Chouinard and Steve Gaines, our masterful Master of Ceremonies Geoff Green, our dedicated volunteers, our auction donors, and our event sponsors: Forester Media, MarBorg Industries, Patagonia, the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Foundation, the Coastal Fund, Fielding Graduate University, Montecito Bank & Trust, Environment Now, Rabobank, and UCSB. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s Blue Water Ball!
